Starbucks

Starbucks

Now, I’m a Starbucks fan. I like their coffee more than most places and the convenience is top notch. Buuutt…the Starbucks nearest my house has a new employee and I’m all about giving the newbees a break, but this girl was just plain not even there. As I was waiting, there were few boys drinking something but obviously waiting for something. Finally, the girl making the coffee says to the box of rocks, I mean girl at the register, “did you ring them up for a hot chocolate?” The girls says no. So I move up in line and the one boy with the money comes over and asks if she can ring him up for the hot chocolate. She says yes, then takes my order, but isn’t really paying attention to me. And by then the line has formed behind me and she has not rung up the boys hot chocolate. Then she gets one food item…I ordered two food items. I said “Did you get the cookie?” She looks at me blankly and asks if I wanted a cookie instead of a rice kispy treat. No, I want both. She then has to charge my card again for the buck or whatever the cookie is. “I didn’t get the cookie,” she says. Now I am getting the picture of why the boys didn’t get their hot chocolate. So I go over to wait for my drink, and look at the boys waiting for their hot chocolate that no one is making. I say to them, “She still isn’t making your hot chocloate.” They look at me as though I am speaking some dead language and don’t respond. So I started signing to them. They weren’t amused. Some communication breakdowns at home, I suspect. But that is a different story. So, by the time I left the boys were saying how they should just go home and forget it. I wasn’t particularly annoyed, I just noticed that the afternoon staff is not quite as proficient as the early morning staff.

i wish i could have seen the signing part. that sounds hillarious. now that i’ve been working for a chain of thrift stores, i am not suprised at all about the competency in the work force out there. i don’t know whether to be annoyed at these people at their lack of maturity, or feel sorry for them that they never had anyone to teach them how to do real life. probably a little of the first and alot of the second. i don’t know.

by the way, “hoy chocolate”. is that a new starbucks offering.

i could totally picture you signing with that sarcastic look on your face. you know the one.

how are the lines there in the morning? i’ve wanted to stop by a couple times, but decided i didn’t want to waste 20 minutes.

That particular Starbucks is one of my least favorite in Ventura; it just doesn’t seem as “inviting” as the others for some reason. Even though it’s closest to our house I almost never go to that one.

I’m pretty sure the only reason it survives is being right next to Buena and Balboa; it is packed right before school (luckily the middle school starts later to stagger it a little bit) and right after school.

At about 7-ish the line can be about 8 deep but it moves fast. They really do have a good morning crew.

So Martha, how’s that caffiene detox going?

Ha ha! Haven’t gone there yet.
