I guess if you're looking at it from the perspective of the world *within* the Matrix, she could be considered "super", but the problem I have with that is that that story/world is itself within the story that we read, which has it's own "real" world in which she is a normal human. Just because she can do extraordinary things in a computer simulation (essentially playing a video game, albeit a complex one) doesn't make her any more super than any kid playing a super-hero based X-Box game.

part of the matrix lore is that the paranormal is simply a bi-product of the world being false. vampires, warewolves, etc are programs attempting to sustain themselves and i would assume that, in the world of the matrix, superheroes would fall under this same category. real life spider-man would just be a dude with an overambitious sense of self, or a program sent to put other bots in check. either way, trinity has powers for all practical purposes in that she has great abilities in what most concider the "world." is superman not "super" because he requires our yellow sun? think of jacking in as trinity's utlity-belt.

I don't typically associate spandex-ishness with superheroes, but I was more thinking of the more strict definition of "super" as in powers. I was not aware that Trinity had any special paranormal abilities, other than those that she has in the virtual world, which to me doesn't count really.

I knew as soon as I mentioned this that someone would dispute it, and I also realize as I post this comment that someone will inevitably respond and ask about Batman, who also doesn't have any actual "powers" but is still widely considered a "super-hero". I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I've never watched Buffy before, so I don't know about her, but I definitely would not consider Lara Croft or Trinity "superheroines".
