You need to waste some money and color in Missouri one of these days. We are great hosts here in the midwest!

no washington?! wow… was south carolina a fly through? are you intentionally avoiding utah?
May 30th, 2006 at 3:49 pm
Ha ha…i think I actually have been in Utah but only the edge and dudn’t stop so I really didn’t feel right about claiming it. Probably a coupl of those southern ones too. I have driven through probably most of the states, but couldn’t tell you what they look like.
Suz…sounds good to me. I have many family and friends out that way that I would love to see. Gotta talk the man into it.
thanks for stopping by!

Hey, you better not be calling me “the man”! Although you may have a point about talking me into it - as you can tell from my state map, those midwest states can be a little too “red” for me, if you know what I mean (sorry for the political joke - I’m just kidding).
Anyway, that’s a pretty cool map thing. I think Martha’s right, though - drive-thru’s don’t count.
They have a countries one too; here’s mine.

lisa better edit hers since she has a number of fly throughs, which count even less!

That’s pretty crazy; I don’t even know how you would calculate fly-thrus, since sometimes you don’t always know what path you’re taking. That’s one other cool thing about JetBlue (others might do it too), but in addition to all the DirecTV channels you can change to one that shows your plane superimposed over a map so you can see exactly where you are at any given moment.
If we did want to count that sort of thing, I’d have to go back and add England to the countries map, since we sat in the London airport for about 5 hours one afternoon waiting for a connecting flight to Sweden. Same for Australia/New Zealand, too.

I think that drive throughs and airport visits count ONLY if you are able to spend enough time in the place (rather just on the road or in the airport) to get a feel for its culture, people, and land. Then, you can actually say you went there and visited.

My “fly through’s” were six hour lay overs…one in Miami and one on New Jersey. if you want I will take them off..

I guess we’ll have to consult the rule book… just kidding - I say leave them on. It should probably be up to each individual what they consider counting; it’s not like anyone’s judging these things or anything.

We could check with Seargent Major Nate about the rules of “Where I’ve Been Blog”, but I feel that if you touched the ground in a particular state/country (even if it was via airplane wheels) you can count it. I mean, you HAVE been there. Otherwise it gets too complicated, making guidelines and all that. Plus we all feel better about our accomplisments don’t we? (You may think that I’m saying this because I’ve only been to about 20 states, and I’m already 48, but it’s not that, at all. Really.)

I was kidding about the drive throughs. They should count. If you have driven through a state, you have done all the above (smelled its air, seen its people, used its restrooms, etc…).
Who needs guidelines anyway?

uhhh. i was kidding too. i thought being serious on blogs was against the rules. that’s me. never can figure out which way the wind is blowing.

I got this from the google translation “hack.”
What I entered:
“she looked so good my jaw fell off.”
Lost in translation and translation and translation and translation:
“it looked at that fell thus my Kiefer
well.”

so are you saying blog humor gets lost in translation? or did i misinterpret your comment?
June 2nd, 2006 at 8:41 am
yeah, by “fly-throughs” i meant layovers. and i think touching ground in any state should count. so, yes jared, you can count the uk, australia, and new zealand. thus sayeth dr. stryker.

It was only Australia (and UK) that was in question, I was already counting New Zealand, since I was there for six months. I just mentioned it with Australia because I stopped in an airport in Australia once on the way (I know, NZ is closer - airlines do weird stuff like that sometimes). I don’t think many people do a layover in NZ, unless they’re on their way to Antarctica.

Mama J, if you read the whole original comment you will understand what I am talking about.
