We’ve switched to Netflix…but it’s not what you think. I liked that I can get more movies at a time, and you can have more than one queue. That way we each get one and one fore the kids so we are constantly rotating movies everyone likes. So, are you all happy now?
June 20th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
what do we think?
June 20th, 2006 at 7:03 pm
huh?
June 20th, 2006 at 7:27 pm
You said, “it’s not what you think.” I’m just wondering what I’m supposed to be thinking.
June 20th, 2006 at 9:12 pm
We use multiple accounts too or at least we did until I became lazy about it and he kept on having dups. We even had one setup for Sapranos so we’d alway shave at least one DVD, it’s the best way to do a series.

Finally! I was always so embarassed when ever I had to tell my friends that my sister still RENTED from BLOCKBUSTER. That is so “yesterday”. Now that you are cool, you can hang around with me again. That’s what I’m thinkin’.
June 21st, 2006 at 6:54 am
That you guys persuaded me, or that Blockbuster was bad.
June 21st, 2006 at 6:57 am
Dan, what does “shave a DVD” mean?
June 21st, 2006 at 7:23 am
I’m thinking he probably meant shave WITH a DVD. You know… After you watch the movie, you can use the DVD to shave with. They are pretty sharp and can give you a nice smooth feel. The money you save on razors pays for your NET FLICKS subscription! Right Dan?

i just quit bb about a month ago and am going back to netflix, bb was way too long in delievering my dvds and since on of the netflix offices is in oxnard i figure it will be faster….
June 21st, 2006 at 8:12 am
I’ve been with netflix for two years and never knew about multiple queues. What a dummy! But I do know aboout netflix friends. I’ll invite you and cynthia to be mine. =)
June 21st, 2006 at 9:02 am
i’d like multiple queues if it were just multiple queues and not separate accounts with separate passwords and separate headaches (and duplicated rentals like dan said).
June 21st, 2006 at 9:52 am
It isn’t; you can view and modify all your other queues from your main account. You still could potentially have duplicates, but that’s not that hard to avoid.
June 21st, 2006 at 1:13 pm
I just thought it would be nice to have a kids movie queue and an us queue, that way when we return a Joey movie we get a Joey movie intead of trans america (which by the way was really good)
June 21st, 2006 at 2:24 pm
Yeah, that was the same idea for us. We have three queues now (Martha, me, and the kids). Martha gets 2 at a time, and the kids and I get one at a time each.
The only problem for me is that I can’t think of anything to put in my queue other than the Twilight Zone boxed set DVDs.
I don’t really watch many TV shows or movies, so I may just not use mine and give Martha back my extra number, and just add my picks to either of the other two queues.
June 21st, 2006 at 2:55 pm
michel, i haven’t started back yet i will start at the end next week…
June 21st, 2006 at 4:38 pm
I love Netflix! Put me and Randy as friends so we can see your queue and you can see ours.
June 21st, 2006 at 8:14 pm
Does it cost more money? We pay for the three at a time thing, but I don’t want anymore than that and don’t want to have to pay for Joey to always have one and us to always have two if it has to be separate…is it the same account? I don’t fully understand
June 21st, 2006 at 8:33 pm
Put the s on the “alway”, then it makes sense.
At the time we used multiple accounts for multiple queues you had to log back into the main account each time, it was sort of weird. I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed it.
June 21st, 2006 at 9:03 pm
so you have four at a time, jared? what the?
June 22nd, 2006 at 9:12 am
Yes, we get four at a time. I don’t know what all the other types of accounts allow (or what the various rates are), since I’ve never used it before the other day when Martha signed up.
The way the queues work is you can add however many additional queues you want to your account, and split up your allotment of movies between them, so for us we do 2/1/1 for now, like I said above. I don’t believe there’s any extra cost to this, and you could theoretically have as many queues as you have movie slots for, with each having only one.
The additional queues do give you separate logins, so that the “sub-accounts” (for lack of a better word) CAN log in independently and manage their own queues, but you can ALSO manage all the queues at once from the main account. Up at the top of the page, there is a drop down link with my name, and I can switch to either of the other two accounts to manage it without having to re-login.
June 22nd, 2006 at 2:57 pm
oh, i see, Dan. I get it now.
June 22nd, 2006 at 4:33 pm
Thank sDan for clearin gthat shave thin gup. I was about to sign up for netflicks just for the shaving option.
June 22nd, 2006 at 9:21 pm
I don’t know what Jared is talking about with managing all the accounts from the main login because when I just used it I could easily go to the other account/queue but when I go back I have to log back in. That’s what I hated about it before, way worse then iTunes.
June 23rd, 2006 at 1:14 pm
Wow, Martha. Love your blog makeover!
June 23rd, 2006 at 2:14 pm
Nice colorful blog. I like it.
June 23rd, 2006 at 10:37 pm
Where is my comment?
June 23rd, 2006 at 10:58 pm
oops, I think it came in while I was moving the database
June 23rd, 2006 at 11:11 pm
I made it this morning (I think), anyways.
Jared: I don’t know what you are talking about because when I log into the main account and switch to another I still have to log back into the main account which sucks because when I used it I would have to go back and forth a lot to move the movies around. Multiple queues is great but it needs some features added like noticing duplicates, moving a movie from one account to another and the option to just have multiple queues not accounts (like nathan said).
The “usability” is way worse then the iTunes podcast issues.
June 23rd, 2006 at 11:17 pm
Netflix is so 4 1/2 years ago. I now get a satellite feed directly to a module in my frontal lobe that sends sounds and images strait to the correct areas of my brain.
I did the 5-movies-at-a-time thing about 5 years ago and it was awesome. I can’t remember anything about the movies that I saw during that period. Since then I have canceled and reinstated my Netflix account 4 times. It’s OK I guess.
June 23rd, 2006 at 11:24 pm
Yeah, I saw it - it’s back now up above.
You don’t have to use multiple accounts (meaning logins - which are all under the same “account”, technically). Of course, when you add a queue it is accomplished by effectively adding a new login (to your existing account), but you can manage all of those queues from your main login, without logging out and logging in.
Since the main purpose for multiple queues is for multiple (separate) people to add manage their own lists, I think it works exactly the way it should for the most part. For the odd case where you (as one person) wants to control all the queues, you can still do that without ever making use of the multiple logins.
I agree that detecting duplicates would be a handy feature, though, but not necessarily preventing them, because I’m pretty sure you can give different addresses for the separate queues, so you may want the same movie in two different queues at once.
Re: the iTunes thing - ha, I think I’ll leave that one alone for the most part, other than to say I’d disagree.
June 23rd, 2006 at 11:59 pm
When nathan copied and pasted movies for our queue to the kids a notice popped up saying the movies was already in nathan’s queue…so what do you mean detecting duplicates, cause as far as i understand it does.
June 24th, 2006 at 12:01 am
Oh yeah
June 24th, 2006 at 12:10 am
That is funny because I think Netflix’s site is horrible. I hate it, the website is too image driven (:D), joking aside I really don’t like it, too many clicks and YES I DO HAVE TO LOG BACK IN EVERYTIME I want back into the master account. I don’t know why you don’t but I do, I just tried.
Anyways I don’t like it anymore it’s cool but multiple queues is great, multiple accounts suck, there is a difference.
And you can’t do different addresses, that’s how Netflix makes money otherwise we could all just share one large one.
Also for the strykers. You want to download and buy this program it’s awesome, I can’t get Sara to use it but it’s the best program ever.

Lisa: When I used it they never had that feature.
Jared: Oh no, I think you like Netflix as much as I like Apple because you can’t admit the usability of the accounts suck.
June 24th, 2006 at 12:22 am
if you assign all of the accounts as “administrative” you can go between them without logging in again. if you go from a non-admin account to another account, it requires a fresh login.
June 24th, 2006 at 12:36 am
I’m not dumb I get that but it doesn’t work for me. Do I need to do a video and it makes me more upset that my account doesn’t allow me to do it when others do.
June 24th, 2006 at 8:58 am
when i friended david a bunch of his rating were really weird…i called him on it and he was like, “i’ve never even seen that movie!” he went in and tried to reset his ratings and they unset themselves. like something was rated four stars, he changed it to one, and it popped over to three! craziness…
