Braces Day 1

Originally uploaded by marthab30.

Ok, so I thought it would be slap on the braces and go- back in the summer when I decided to proceed with the whole thing. HA! I have since had two gum surgeries which took from September til now to heal. Then today, I go to finally get the darn things on. The girl is having trouble with one of my bands and has changed sizes at least twice. She decides it still needs to be smaller then goes to take it off. I feel it come loose, then she jumps up and walks away. I hear my dentists name and then the ACTUAL orthodontist sits down (haven’t seen much of him yet). He asks me “Was that an old one?” I’m like “Huh? What are you talking about?” He says “Ohhhhhh, she didn’t tell you. Your crown came off when she removed the band.” What the HECK! So they have to finish up my upper braces and send me off to the dentist to get my crown glued on. I am over an hour late for getting back to work by then. Now, I have to return to the ortho tomorrow so they can put my lower braces on. Oh yeah, he also decide he wanted me to wear some bite protector thing that needs to be specially made and attached to my upper bands. I will need to return next week to get that installed.

So, anyway, making along story longer, they are mostly just weird right now. Not too sore. But I know with working out, the third day is always the worst.

I did feel bad for the braces putter onner girl, she was mortified and was so sorry that it happened. Whatever. What’s another day in two years?

Think I’ll look that happy?

My mouth

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

So, I really don’t care for complaining especially when it is about something that a person has chosen to endure, buuuuut…I got the first installment on my braces. Spacers in my back teeth, top and bottom, 4 all together. Yeah, so, my mouth hurts. It hurt to eat a banana this morning. And, I keep squeezing them together like I need to remind myself that it’s still sore. I keep thinking, “You wanted this”, but somehow three days into a two year process, it isn’t comforting. It’s going to be worth it, right? Lie to me, if you must.

Emma does the dishes.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Something beautiful happened at our house. I taught Emma how to do the dishes. She now is scheduled to do them two days a week. Last night was her first night and she did awesome. I told her I would wash the pans but she insisted on doing it all. The only thing she forgot was to wipe the counter, but there are other people in the house that also do that…I won’t name names. But, I digress. It really is bittersweet watching your kids grow. Excuse me while I get a tissue.

Does anyone remember that email that went around about the mom who was sad becuase her kids had moved on and she remembered complaining about the dirty house, and flet bad cuz she wanted dirty fingerprints now? Well, that won’t be me. I’ll miss my kids when they’re gone, not their mess. Needed to get that out. Thanks.

Dinner and a kick in the butt

This was my fortune last night. I got this immediately after telling Jared that my goals are ridiculous and that I cannot achieve them unless I use ridiculous measures, and that people will think they are dumb…hmmmm.

“For Kids 12 and Under”

Friday, November 10th, 2006

So we went to breakfast today, and I’m really trying to stay very strict for the next two weeks about what I eat. So, they have a “health conscious” menu at IHOP. I know, sounds luducrous, but I asked to see it. Well, the choices were not, in my opinion, that great, but I finally landed on something on the “kids” portion. A smaller portion size, so less of everything…fat, carbs…etc. When I ordered, the guy acted all weird and then said, “If anyone asks, just tell them it is for your son.” I’m like, “Uh, ok.” I actually hadn’t realized there was an age range for the meal. What is the deal with this? Is it money driven? Can they actually tell you that you cannot have a meal just because it falls on the “kids” part of the menu. This is so stupid! Any former restaurant workers out there have inside info on this?

It was fun!

We spent the day in the sun watching 3 soccer games each. Chrsitian and Emma both had two. They won the first and lost the second. It was hot, stressful and long, but we are really beginning to love the game. At least when our kids play. Then a fun Baby shower for the Brooks. Casual, coed BBQ shower. I think we should switch all showers to this style. Girlie showers are so out. :)
