I was the cool kid in middle school that had to take her bite plate out after lunch time to clean it. But, as I remember it, it's to prevent your top teeth from knocking off the bottom braces. It was hard to get used to, I don't think I had to wear it that long, so hopefully you won't! It's worth it, though. I forgot about that character in Best in Show! I'm going to think of you reading LL Bean in Starbucks when I see your braces now :) I had a bite plate, too.
