That stinkin’ Blue Whale
That stinkin’ Blue Whale
A blue whale died offshore from here and beached at Faria just 10 minutes north of Ventura (where I live, for all you who don’t live here). It is decomposing and stinks pretty bad. (Imagine old fish. Yum.) They were starting to dismantle it to bury it and we went out to check it out. I know, we’re weird. Bur seriously, when will I ever see this again?
Look at the guy standing next to it with the orange shirt. Gives a little perspective on how ginormous this thing is. The end where he is standing is where the tail was and they had already removed it and buried it.
Someone said it was bruised on it’s side indicating that a boat may have hit it, being the cause of death. Poor whale.

we went on saturdsay to see it. when I got out of the car, i seriously almost started vomitting. it was really amazing to see something that huge…i’m not sure what size I was excepting but that whale was gigantic.
I am however little if-y about being at the beach there…the idea of a dead whale buried somwhere in the sand..isn’t my idea of great beach day?

I’m with Ali, why do they think making a mound over this thing is going to keep people and animals from digging it up. When you bury people or pets you dig at least six foot holes don’t you?

My sentiments exactly. Martha didn’t mention it, but I was the only one in the family that didn’t go check it out, and the smell was the reason.
Well, that and I was busy working on a project to win a couple free iPhones.

Evveryone came over to our house to eat after seeing the whale, and the house smelled like dead whale all night. Randy had to bleach and wash his flip flops. Don’t know if they’ll ever recover. It was cool, though.
